Where the El Rocío apartments are
The El Rocío building is on Avinguda de València, in the old town of Alcossebre (Alcalà de Xivert, Castellón), in the Cargador and town centre area. Guests agree that the location is the best thing about the accommodation: Cargador beach is a few minutes' walk away and there is everything around.

According to the published reviews, next to the building you have:
- The seafront promenade and the bars and restaurants of the centre.
- A supermarket next door.
- The cinema and the market, which in Alcossebre is held on Tuesdays from May to October in the promenade area.
Cargador beach (Carregador) is Alcossebre's main one: about 850 metres of fine sand, a dune system with a sea daffodil colony, adapted access, a sailing club and paddle surf rental. It has a Blue Flag every year since 1987.
Advantages of the area: everything on foot, with no need for a car during your stay, and a town atmosphere in season.
Drawbacks: being right in the centre, the surroundings are livelier than in the Las Fuentes or Romana developments, and there is no pool for when you do not feel like the beach.
What the El Rocío building is like
El Rocío is an apartment block with no pool that Casa Azahar itself describes as basic. It has no leisure areas or garden: its value is its location.

According to Casa Azahar's listing and reviews:
- There are one-bedroom and two-bedroom apartments.
- They have a kitchen and a terrace, which guests consider usable.
- Climate control is by ceiling fans: there is no air conditioning.
- Some apartments are on the ground floor, with a terrace onto the street.
There are no sea views. A lift is not mentioned in the listing either.
What guests say about El Rocío
El Rocío has no active listing with reviews on Booking, so the ratings come from two portals:
6.3/10 weighted average across booking sites · 89 reviews
| Website | Score | Reviews |
|---|---|---|
| Atrápalo | 6.1/10 | 80 |
| Central de Reservas | 8.5/10 | 9 |
Public scores from each website, checked on octubre de 2026. They may have changed; see the source for the current score.
The two sources tell different stories and should be read together. Atrápalo has the volume (80 reviews) and is much more critical (6.1), while Central de Reservas, with only 9 reviews, gives 8.5. The weighted average (6.3) mainly reflects Atrápalo. Google has a holiday rental listing without reviews and TripAdvisor a listing without reviews.
What guests like most
On both portals the highest score is location: 9.0 on Atrápalo and 9.3 on Central de Reservas. Staff also comes out well on Atrápalo (7.9) and services on Central de Reservas (9.2). What guests highlight:
- The central location, a few minutes from the beach.
- Having the promenade, bars, cinema, market and supermarket next door.
- A terrace that can be used.
- The good directions when collecting the keys.
What could be improved
On Atrápalo, the lowest sub-scores are facilities (5.7), room (6.4) and cleanliness (6.6). The criticism concentrates on:
- Lack of air conditioning. It is the dominant complaint of summer 2026: a lot of heat in July and August, with fans that fall short.
- Low-quality mattresses and sofa beds.
- Scarce kitchenware, with no towels or basic products.
- Bed layout different from the one booked in some cases.
- Ground floors with no grille or awning, with a terrace that some guests perceive as not very secure.
- Dated apartments and uneven cleanliness.
The profile of the reviewers is Spanish families and groups.
Our assessment of El Rocío
Being honest with the data, El Rocío is a functional, well-located but basic accommodation, and the reviews reflect it.
Strengths
- Location right in the centre, with a score of 9 or more on both portals.
- Cargador beach, promenade, supermarket and leisure a few minutes' walk away.
- Terrace and kitchen for independent living.
Weaknesses
- No air conditioning: in high summer the heat is the main complaint.
- No pool or shared areas.
- Beds, kitchenware and furniture that could be better, according to a good part of the reviews.
Ideal for
- Groups and families who spend the day out and only need a central base for sleeping and cooking.
- Stays in spring, September or autumn, when the heat is not a problem and the town is still lively.
- Anyone who prefers to get around on foot and have bars and shops on the doorstep.
Less recommended in July and August for anyone who copes badly with heat, who wants a pool or who is looking for a renovated apartment. Like all Casa Azahar buildings, El Rocío does not allow pets.

Tips for staying at El Rocío
Based on what guests say, these guidelines will help you get the most out of the apartment:
- Bring towels and basic products or confirm beforehand what the booking includes: it is one of the most repeated complaints on Atrápalo.
- Confirm the bed layout when booking if you are travelling as a group, because one guest found a different one from what was expected.
- If you are concerned about terrace security, ask for a unit on an upper floor rather than a ground floor.
- In summer, consider bringing an extra fan or choosing another building with air conditioning if you are sensitive to heat.
- Leave the car parked: from the centre you can walk to the beach, the promenade, the supermarket and the market.
When to go to El Rocío
Given its characteristics, El Rocío works best outside the hottest months. In Alcossebre, the average temperature is about 16 °C in spring and about 19 °C in autumn, with average highs of 21 to 23 °C, according to AEMET data from the nearest station. These are comfortable temperatures for an apartment with fans, for strolling on Cargador beach and for doing the Serra d'Irta routes.
In July and August average highs are around 29-30 °C and the sea is around 25 °C: it is the best time for swimming, but also when the lack of air conditioning is most noticeable. If you travel on those dates and want to stay in the centre, look at the alternatives below. For long stays out of season, you will find ideas in our guide to weekly and fortnightly rentals.
