The El Castell apartments in Alcossebre are a small development right in the old town, with a pool area surrounded by natural lawn and a short distance from Cargador beach. It is a long-established kind of complex, with multi-storey homes and some duplexes, designed for a family summer holiday without taking the car.
Casa Azahar, the local Alcossebre agency, manages apartments in El Castell and has its own page with photos and availability. On this page we tell you frankly what guests say, the good and the not so good, so you can decide with all the information.

Where the El Castell apartments are
El Castell is at Calle Colón, 6, in the Cargador and town centre area of Alcossebre. The location is its great asset: on Booking it scores 9.2 out of 10, and guests describe it as central and close to the beach.

The reference beach is Carregador or Cargador:
- 850 metres of fine sand and about 70 wide, with a seafront promenade and protected dunes.
- Fully accessible, with a sailing club and paddle surf rental.
- Blue Flag every year without interruption since 1987; in 2026, Alcossebre has four flag beaches: Carregador, El Moro, Romana and Manyetes.
Advantages of the area: shops, restaurants, the square and the beach, all on foot. If you arrive by car, the development's free parking solves one of the usual problems of the centre in summer.
Drawbacks: being in the old town, do not expect sea views or a natural setting. In August the centre is very lively.
What the El Castell complex is like
El Castell is a development of apartments organised around a shared area with a pool. According to the reviews, the services listed on Booking and the photos on Casa Azahar's page:
- Communal pool surrounded by natural lawn, one of the aspects guests like most.
- Free parking.
- Wifi, which has the top sub-score on Booking (10).
- Multi-storey homes, some duplexes, with a terrace, living-dining room, kitchen, bedrooms with a double bed and with single beds, and a bathroom with a bathtub or shower depending on the home.
- Fans to cool the rooms.

No air conditioning is mentioned in the homes, and it is the complex's most sensitive point: guests say that in summer the upper floor gets very hot. A lift and a dishwasher are not mentioned either.

5.4/10 weighted average across booking sites · 21 reviews

Public scores from each website, checked on octubre de 2026. They may have changed; see the source for the current score.
El Castell only has ratings on Booking: 21 reviews with a score of 5.4 out of 10. The complex's Google listing, on Calle Colón, exists but has no reviews, and we have not found listings on TripAdvisor, Atrápalo, Central de Reservas or Expedia. With such a short sample, a few bad stays pull the average down a lot; even so, the themes repeat enough to be taken seriously.
The Booking sub-scores show a very marked contrast:
| Aspect | Score |
|---|---|
| Wifi | 10 |
| Location | 9.2 |
| Staff | 7.9 |
| Cleanliness | 6.7 |
| Value for money | 6.3 |
| Facilities | 6.3 |
| Comfort | 5.7 |
In other words: the site and the service work; the interior of the homes, less so.
What is most appreciated:
- The central location close to the beach.
- The pleasant development, with a pool surrounded by natural lawn.
- The friendly service of the agency staff.
- Some new appliances and a comfortable main mattress.
What is most criticised:
- The heat: no air conditioning, only fans; the upper floor becomes an oven in summer.
- Old or neglected homes in some cases: windows that do not open, a broken shower tray, loose light fittings.
- Basic and uncomfortable furniture and sofa bed.
- Scarce equipment: few sockets, no dishwasher or awning.
- Delay in returning the deposit, mentioned by some guest.
The profile of the reviewers is clear: Spanish families.
Our assessment of the El Castell apartments
Strengths. The location is hard to beat: centre of Alcossebre, beach nearby, a pool with lawn for the children and free parking. For a family who wants to live the town life, walk everywhere and have a quiet pool on returning from the beach, El Castell delivers on the essentials.
Weaknesses. The Booking score is low and we are not going to hide it. The criticism concentrates on two things: the lack of climate control and the condition of some homes. If you go in July or August and are sensitive to heat, it is a decisive factor.
Ideal for:
- Families who prioritise location, pool and parking over equipment.
- Stays outside high summer, when the heat is not a problem.
- Anyone looking for a duplex in the centre, with space spread over two floors.
Less suitable for: anyone who needs air conditioning, anyone looking for a renovated apartment or anyone travelling with people who cannot climb stairs.

Tips to get El Castell right
- Look at the photos of the specific home. Not all are the same; the new appliances some guests highlight coexist with older homes.
- Ask for the ground floor if you go in summer. The heat complaints focus on the upper floor.
- Bring the basics for cooking and cleaning if you plan to spend time in the apartment.
- Read the deposit conditions before arriving, to know how and when it is returned.
When to go to El Castell
As the complex's main weakness is the heat in the homes, the time of year matters more than usual. In Alcossebre, the average summer temperature is around 24.5 °C, with highs of 29-30 °C in July and August. In September the highs drop, the sea stays warm and the beaches are quieter; in autumn the average is around 19 °C. In spring, with averages of about 16 °C, the weather is pleasant for strolling and walking routes, though not yet for swimming.
If you come with children in high summer, the development's pool with lawn and the proximity of the beach help you spend the middle hours of the day out of the apartment. To organise stays by the week, there is the guide to weekly and fortnightly rentals in Alcocéber.
With children from El Castell
The beaches of Carregador, Romana and Les Fonts have a children's area or activities, according to the official tourism website. At Carregador there is a sailing club and paddle surf rental, and from the marina boat trips leave for the Columbretes Islands. If you are looking for a different day out, the Aquarama water park, in Benicàssim, is about 35 km away.
