The Irta Playa apartments in Alcossebre are one of the holiday rental buildings closest to Cargador beach. They appear on the portals as Irta Playa, Irta Playa Altamar or Irta Playa 3000, depending on the operator. Despite the name, the building is not in the Sierra de Irta, but next to Cargador beach, in the town centre.

Where the Irta Playa apartments are

The Irta Playa block is about 50 m from Cargador beach, in the central area of Alcossebre (Alcalà de Xivert, Castellón). Guests describe it as front-line beach, with the supermarket and the seafront promenade next door.

Cargador beach (Carregador) is the town's main one:

• About 850 m long and 70 m wide, with fine sand.
• Fully accessible and with a Blue Flag every year since 1987.
• A dune system of high ecological value, with a colony of sea daffodils.
• A sailing club and paddle surf hire.

To the south, the Senda Litoral leads along a wooden walkway to Romana beach; to the north, the promenade brings you to the centre, Las Fuentes beach and the marina.

In favour of the area: beach, promenade, shops and restaurants on foot; you do not need the car during your stay. Against: in the height of summer it is a very busy area, less quiet than the developments in Las Fuentes or the Sierra de Irta.

1. Ask whether your apartment has air conditioning. It is one of the most repeated complaints.

A week without a car from Irta Playa

The big advantage of staying 50 m from Cargador is that the car can stay parked all week. Some ideas for getting around on foot:

• Beach mornings at Cargador, with a Blue Flag every year since 1987, or at Romana, reached on foot along the Senda Litoral.
• Daily shopping at the supermarket next door, one of the things guests appreciate most.
• Tourist information at Tourist Info Alcossebre, in Plaza Vistalegre, which also serves as a partner information point for the Serra d'Irta Natural Park.
• Evening strolls along the promenade to the north, as far as Las Fuentes beach and the marina, with its freshwater springs in the sand.
• A weekly market from May to October, by the seafront promenade.
• Water activities: paddle surfing from the Cargador sailing club or, from the marina, a trip to the Columbretes Islands.

For routes in the Serra d'Irta or a trip to Peñíscola (about 32 km by road) or the town of Alcalà de Xivert (about 9 km), you will need the car.

What to do near the Irta Playa apartments

• Beaches: Cargador in front; Romana along the Senda Litoral; and El Moro, with lifeguards, showers and toilets. Four Alcossebre beaches have a Blue Flag in 2026: Carregador, El Moro, Romana and Manyetes.
• Seafront promenade: restaurants and, from May to October, a weekly market by the promenade.
• Water sports: paddle surfing at Cargador, a sailing school at the marina and trips to the Columbretes Islands.
• Serra d'Irta Natural Park: the range protects about 7,743 ha and some 12 km of unspoilt coastline between Alcossebre and Peñíscola; its summit is the Campanilles peak, at 572 m. From Cala Blanca, route 2 on foot (12.8 km, easy) and the Ruta del Cranc by bike (13.2 km) set off. In summer, driving onto the park's coast requires booking a space in the GVA Parcs Naturals app.
• Local food: oven-baked rice, suquet de peix and almond sweets, and the tomata de penjar from Alcalà de Xivert.

How to get to the Irta Playa apartments

• By car: AP-7, exit 44 (Alcossebre-Torreblanca), or N-340 and CV-142. Once in Alcossebre, follow signs to Cargador beach. You will find routes and distances in how to drive to Alcocéber.
• By train: Alcalà de Xivert station, about 10 km away.
• By plane: Castellón (about 22 km), Valencia (about 123 km), Reus (about 145 km) and Barcelona-El Prat (about 230 km).
