Where the Nova Romana complex is
The Nova Romana complex is at Carrer de les Campanilles, 17, in the Romana beach area, south of the centre of Alcossebre (Alcalà de Xivert, Castellón). It is a residential area of developments with gardens, quieter than the Cargador promenade.
Romana beach is a few minutes' walk away. It is about 500 m long and 40 m wide, with fine sand, is accessible and has a Blue Flag in 2026. From there, the Senda Litoral, a wooden boardwalk by the sea, leads on foot to Cargador beach and the town centre, with its shops and restaurants.
Advantages and drawbacks of the area:
- Pros: a residential, family atmosphere, a wide accessible beach nearby, and a seafront walk to the centre.
- Cons: to get to the marina or to Las Fuentes beach, in the north of the town, you will normally need the car; and there are fewer restaurants in the immediate surroundings than at Cargador.

What Residencial Nova Romana is like
Nova Romana is a residence with a garden and pool built in several phases, shown on maps as blocks I, II and III. The communal areas are the complex's main attraction:
- Adults' pool and children's pool, surrounded by lawn. Guests highlight the shade, a waterfall and areas designed for children and babies. In low season, Booking warns that the pools may not be available, so if you travel outside summer, ask.
- A large, well-kept garden, with a quiet atmosphere.
- Indoor parking within the grounds, according to the reviews.
As for the apartments managed by Casa Azahar, there are 1-bedroom flats for 4 people and 3-bedroom flats for 6 people, some of them duplexes. They have a large terrace for eating outdoors; in some units the terrace overlooks the pool and garden. The apartments do not have sea views. Like all Casa Azahar buildings, pets are not allowed.

8.3/10 weighted average across booking sites · 102 reviews

Public scores from each website, checked on octubre de 2026. They may have changed; see the source for the current score.
Nova Romana has 102 reviews across four portals. Most are on Google (4.2 out of 5, 77 reviews) and Booking.com (8.1 out of 10, 19 reviews). The data should be read with two caveats:
- Not all reviews are about the same apartments. Several agencies work in the complex (besides Casa Azahar, others such as Lloguers Altamar or Albert Villas market units), and Google shows reviews of flats rented by other companies, such as Marineu. The linked Booking listing does correspond to Casa Azahar's apartments.
- Some reviews are old. The 5 on Central de Reservas (7.4 out of 10) date from 2013 to 2015, and TripAdvisor has only one review (3 out of 5), with little statistical weight.
What guests like most. On Booking, staff score 9.6 and location 9.1, the highest sub-scores. Guests repeat these points:
- The pool, the best-rated feature: lawn, shade, a waterfall and space for children and babies to play.
- A well-kept, quiet complex, pleasant for resting.
- Large terraces where you can eat lunch and dinner outdoors.
- Parking inside the grounds.
- Romana beach nearby, a few minutes' walk.
- The friendliness of the staff.
What guests criticise. The facilities (7.1) and comfort (7.5) sub-scores show where there is room for improvement. Some guests mention that:
- The apartments are old and some of the furniture needs renewing.
- The beds, and above all the sofa beds, are uncomfortable.
- There have been occasional breakdowns (toilet, microwave, locks).
- The terraces have no awning and get a lot of sun.
- Not all units have air conditioning or wifi.
- Cleaning is inconsistent depending on the apartment.
The predominant profile is Spanish families and groups, consistent with a pool-and-garden complex.

Our assessment of the Nova Romana complex
Strengths
- A very complete pool area for families, with a children's pool and lawn.
- A quiet, well-kept site with indoor parking.
- Romana beach, accessible and with a Blue Flag, a few minutes away.
- 3-bedroom apartments for 6 people, useful for large families or two couples.
Weaknesses
- Dated interiors: furniture and sofa beds could be better.
- Uneven air conditioning and wifi between units.
- Sunny terraces without an awning.
- For the centre, the marina or nightlife, you need to walk a while or take the car.
Ideal for.Families with young children who will split the day between the beach in the morning and the pool in the afternoon, and who value having the car inside the grounds. Also for groups of friends looking for peace and quiet. If you want to go out for dinner every night without taking the car or have sea views, a Cargador building will suit you better.
Before booking, confirm whether your apartment has air conditioning and wifi, and how many of the beds are sofa beds.
Nova Romana compared with other complexes by Romana beach
The Romana beach area has several holiday rental residences, and it is common to hesitate between them. Based on the portal data, this is how Nova Romana compares:
| Complex | Location | What sets it apart | Average portal rating |
|---|---|---|---|
| Nova Romana | A few minutes from Romana beach | Adults' and children's pools, garden and indoor parking | 8.3/10 (102 reviews) |
| Kione Anamar | About 50 m from Romana beach | Two-storey townhouses with small pools; pets allowed | 7.7/10 (876 reviews) |
| Entreplayas | Beachfront between Romana and Cargador | Pool with hydromassage and free parking, few reviews | 8.6/10 (28 reviews) |
| Casablanca (Casa Azahar) | Right on the front line of Romana beach | Sea views, palm trees and seasonal pool | See its page on Casa Azahar |
The main difference is between being on the front line, with sea views but smaller communal areas, or a few minutes from the sand, like Nova Romana, with more garden and a pool designed for children. If you are travelling with babies or young children, the second model is usually more convenient, because the children's pool and garden are inside the grounds.
Tips for your stay at Nova Romana
- Confirm your unit's equipment. Air conditioning and wifi are not in every apartment in the complex.
- Ask about the beds. If more than four of you are staying in a one-bedroom flat, someone will sleep on the sofa bed, which is what guests rate worst.
- Bring shade for the terrace. With no awning, a patio parasol or eating early makes all the difference in August.
- Check the pool season. Outside summer it may be closed.
- Make the most of the parking. Leaving the car in the grounds and getting around on foot along the Senda Litoral is the most comfortable way to enjoy the area.
